Al-Shifa Trust began its journey over 34 years ago with a simple but powerful mission to eliminate preventable blindness and make quality eye care accessible to all, regardless of financial means. What started as a single act of compassion has evolved into one of Pakistan’s largest and most trusted eye care institutions.

With eight dedicated specialties, such as pediatric ophthalmology, retina and glaucoma and centers of excellence in research, community care, and eye cancer treatment, ASIEC continues to shape the future of vision care in Pakistan.

1985

Al-Shifa Trust was established as an NGO in 1985 by Late Lt. Gen Retd Jehandad Khan

1991

Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Rawalpindi began its operations in 1991.

1992

AST started its eyecare community outreach program under the Al-Shifa Centre for Community Ophthalmology (ACCO).

2000

Al-Shifa Trust built a new Eye Hospital in Sukkur to serve the communities in Sindh.

2005

Al-Shifa Trust built a new Eye Hospital in Kohat to serve the communities in КРК.

2009

Al-Shifa Established the first Low-Vision Rehabilitation Centre in Pakistan.

2019

Al-Shifa Trust established the first eye bank in the country to recover, prepare, store, and deliver corneas.

2021

First DRAP-Licensed clinical trial site in Rawalpindi was established in 2021.

The first Children Eye Hospital in Pakistan for pediatric eye care became functional in August 2021.

2022

Pakistan’s first exclusive eye cancer center was inaugurated in 2022 offering chemotherapy services to pediatric patients.

2023

Al-Shifa Center for Eye Cancer started offering Chemotherapy to adult patients with eye cancer.

The groundbreaking ceremony of AST Gilgit was held in July.
